Urushi cutlery and tools

BASFの工場から出る、素材の性能試験などに使われた廃材をアップサイクルするプロジェクト。
エンジニアリングプラスチックと呼ばれる機械部品や工具などにつかわれるような、高性能で高耐久な
樹脂であることに着目し、それらを日常的に使われるようなカトラリーや道具にアップサイクルしました。
日本の伝統工芸の一つである漆塗りを使う事で、耐久性だけでなく口当たりや手触りも増し、
長く使ってもらえる物になりました。
A project to upcycle waste materials from BASF’s factories that are used for performance testing of materials.
We focused on the fact that the waste materials were engineering plastics, which are high-perfomance
and durable resins used for machine parts and tools, and upcycled them into cutlery and tools for daily use.
The use of Urushi lacquer, a traditional Japanese craft, has increased not only the durability but also the feel
and texture, making these usable for a long time.
